ABOUT THE TALL GRASS ARTS ASSOCIATION
MISSION
To promote public education and appreciation of the arts; to encourage artists; and to support high quality art through exhibitions, sales, classes and special programs available to the public of all ages.
HISTORY
- Began in 1956 as the Park Forest Art Center
- Previously located in the Park Forest Library, then the Freedom Hall in the Community Center
- Located at the newly redeveloped Cultural Arts Center in Downtown Park Forest since 1999
- Classes are held in adjoining location
PROGRAMS
- Exhibits local, regional, national and international artists and culture
- Classes in all media for children and adults
- Presents lectures and tours featuring esteemed authorities in various areas of arts and culture
- Provides docent led tours and performances for school children in regional and underserved Chicagoland communities
- Sponsors three Annual Film Series featuring art films that are followed by group discussion
- Organizes an Annual Juried Art Fair featuring works by Midwest artists
- Facilitates an Annual Beaux Arts Ball and art auction that supports TGAA operational fees
SERVICES
TGAA serves the Southland Communities located in the South Suburbs of Chicago as well as neighboring communities in Lake County Indiana and Will County Illinois
- Provides artists the opportunity to exhibit and sale original artwork to the public
- Provides information and referral services to artists, teachers, students and the general public
- Makes available artists assistance with development of professional portfolios, using the web for marketing art, information regional exhibition opportunities, as well as presenting special lectures and workshops

BACKGROUND
The Tall Grass Arts Association is a not-for-profit organization fully exempt from federal income tax under section 501.c.3 of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal ID 36-6134605)
- It is run by a 15-member volunteer board of directors
- Staff of three part-time employees and unpaid volunteers
- Funding is derived from individual and corporate memberships; program sponsorship; public and private grants; income producing programs such as classes, art fairs, film series; the TGAA Gift Shop; and distributions from the Stanton Segner Memorial Fund Endowment.
